Career practitioners, researchers, leaders and policymakers from around the world will gather in Auckland this November.
New Zealand will host two significant international career development events in Auckland this November, strengthening global collaboration and New Zealand’s contribution to career guidance policy and practice.
The International Centre for Career Development and Public Policy (ICCDPP) Symposium and the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG) International Conference will be held back-to-back over one week. The two events will bring together career practitioners, researchers, system leaders and policymakers from New Zealand and overseas.
The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) is the government partner for both events.
Nina Ive, TEC’s Deputy Chief Executive, Careers and Investment Design, says hosting the events aligns with New Zealand’s long‑term approach to building an effective and inclusive careers system.
“These events strengthen international connections, support quality practice and align with the National Careers System Strategy.
“As kaitiaki of the Strategy, TEC has a leadership role in coordinating its implementation. Hosting these events helps translate the Strategy’s direction into shared learning and practical action.”
ICCDPP Symposium: strengthening career guidance policy
The ICCDPP Symposium will take place on 22–24 November 2026. It is an invitation‑only forum with a strong focus on career guidance policy and system development.
Country delegations will bring together leaders from policy, practice and research to explore what works and what is needed to strengthen career guidance systems. The symposium is designed to support in‑depth discussion, shared learning and collaborative action planning, with a focus on improving outcomes across diverse national contexts.
IAEVG International Conference: sharing research, innovation and practice
The IAEVG International Conference will follow on 25–27 November 2026 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland. The conference will be hosted by the Careers and Transition Education Association of New Zealand (CATE).
It is open to career professionals from education, training, employment services and related sectors. Under the theme “Navigating the Future”, participants will share research, innovation and practice, and engage with international perspectives on career development and transitions.
The conference provides an opportunity for New Zealand practitioners and organisations to contribute to global learning, while strengthening capability across the careers workforce.
Supporting the National Careers System Strategy
Together, the ICCDPP Symposium and the IAEVG Conference reflect the National Careers System Strategy’s focus on:
- inclusion and equitable access to career guidance
- collaboration across sectors and systems
- continuous improvement of career development practice and policy.
They also reinforce New Zealand’s role in contributing to international conversations on career development and public policy.
