Minister Simmonds has announced the new arrangements for the remaining four polytechnics operating within the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST).

From 1 January 2027, NorthTec, the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT), and Whitireia and WelTec will be established as stand-alone regional polytechnics. They are intended to be designated as members of the federation of polytechnics.

Tai Poutini Polytechnic will continue to deliver education and training, and will operate under the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, the anchor polytechnic of the Federation.
