This page contains information about our transition from Qlik apps to Power BI Information Products.

Transitioning to Power BI Information Products

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) currently provides a suite of information products (Qlik Apps) to support data visualisation, analysis and sharing.

At a later date, we will transition from Qlik Apps to Power BI Information Products. This shift marks the final phase of our Data System Refresh programme and will strengthen how we collect, manage and use data through the Data Exchange Platform (DXP Ngā Kete) and our new Modern Data Platform.

The new Power BI information products will:

  • continue to support data visualisation, analysis and sharing
  • introduce an updated look and feel
  • maintain access to the same underlying data currently available in Qlik Apps.

Transition approach

TEO Reference Group

We are working with a representative group of tertiary education organisations (TEOs) from across the sector to validate the new reports through early engagement and user testing. Their feedback is helping us plan a smooth and well-supported transition from Qlik to Power BI.

Ongoing communications

We will keep the sector informed throughout the transition. Key dates and milestones will be published on the TEC website, and we will share progress updates through a bi monthly email.

Power BI webinar (later in 2026)

An overview of Power BI, what’s changing and when, and a demonstration of the new reports.

Training webinar (pre-go live)

A comprehensive recorded walkthrough of how to use TEC Power BI reports, including navigation, features, and tips for getting the most out of the new tools.

Drop-in Q&A sessions (post-go live)

Informal sessions with a focus on focusing on report purpose, context and user questions to support a confident transition.
