General enquiries

If you want to contact the Tertiary Education Commission (the TEC) with a general enquiry, our Customer Contact Team is your first point of contact.

You can email us using the contact form below or call us on 0800 601 301 or +64 4 462 5201.

We are here from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, except on Wednesdays, when our hours are 9.30am to 5pm.

We are closed on public holidays, including Wellington Anniversary.

Hearing or speech communication difficulty?

Contact us through New Zealand Relay. This free service enables people who are Deaf, Deafblind or experiencing hearing loss, or have a speech condition, to use the phone. Find out more on the New Zealand Relay website.

Complaints

We can receive complaints about tertiary education organisations and services that we fund. If another organisation is better placed to help with your concern, we can help direct you to the appropriate agency.

Protected disclosures

If you wish to report serious wrongdoing at TEC – or at an organisation associated with TEC – we will manage your report in accordance with the Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act 2022.

You may report concerns about serious wrongdoing by:

• submitting a Report of a Serious Wrongdoing (Protected Disclosure) form (DOCX 43 KB), or
• emailing us direct at protecteddisclosures@tec.govt.nz.

If you’d like a copy of our Protected Disclosures policy and procedures, ask for one at protecteddisclosures@tec.govt.nz.

Our policy tells you:

• who can report serious wrongdoing
• what ‘serious wrongdoing’ means
• who to contact if you do not wish to use this email address to tell us your concern.

If you’re requesting specific information (eg, under the Official Information Act or for research purposes), email OIA@tec.govt.nz with “Request for information” in the subject line. Please state why you need the information and your deadline, if you have one.
