The transition journey for Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) is well under way with all subsidiaries on track to transition into Te Pūkenga by 1 November 2022.

On 1 October, NMIT, Tai Poutini Polytechnic, NorthTec, Unitec and MIT all successfully transitioned into Te Pūkenga, joining Whitireia, WelTec, Wintec and Toi Ohomai who became part of Te Pūkenga whānau earlier.

As ITPs transition into Te Pūkenga their boards are dissolved, they cease to exist as separate legal entities and they become business divisions of Te Pūkenga. Post-dissolution of the subsidiaries, the business divisions, with all of their current leadership teams remain in place.

The impact of ITP transition for kaimahi and ākonga is minimal and the job of teaching and learning continues as normal, as does the commitment to strategic initiatives and activities of current and transitioning subsidiaries.

These ITP transitions are taking place in parallel with the final transitions of TITOs into Te Pūkenga Work Base Learning subsidiary.  Bringing the network together is an important milestone towards creating a unified and successful vocational education sector.

The transitions of the remaining seven ITPs into Te Pūkenga will take place on 1 November and include Otago Polytechnic, Ara Institute of Canterbury, Open Polytechnic, SIT, WITT, EIT and UCOL.
