This page presents a recording of a 2018 workshop on using the diagnostic results from the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT), along with background information.
In 2018, a range of workshops were co-delivered by the New Zealand Council for Educational Research (NZCER) and the National Centre of Literacy and Numeracy for Adults.
They included:
- a range of LNAAT user levels from beginner to competent
- utilising literacy and numeracy data to inform whole-organisation decision-making, and
- use of LNAAT results to inform teaching and learning practice.
Each workshop was specific for its intended audience.
The Embedded Literacy and Numeracy (ELN) process is designed to facilitate successful learning environments for learners who may otherwise have difficulty with the literacy or numeracy demands of their programme or target vocation.
The Knowing what to do with diagnostic results from the Assessment Tool workshop explored how the embedded literacy process is informed by learners' results with the LNAAT.
Through careful mapping of demands, the LNAAT informs educators and learners of specific areas that require development. This lets educators scaffold demanding tasks to ensure positive learning experiences for learners and prioritise key areas of literacy or numeracy for development.
Prioritising key literacy and numeracy skills and designing scaffolded strategies to develop these skills can be accomplished using the Learning Progressions and associated resources.
This workshop explores methods of developing group and individual learning plans that facilitate this process. It gives a real example, to support organisations to develop their own literacy and numeracy priorities. The LNAAT is a key component of the process and should be used to inform the planning and implementation of those plans.
