Four business divisions remain in NZIST (formerly Te Pūkenga) and continue to deliver education and training to learners in their regions.
Four business divisions remain in NZIST (formerly Te Pūkenga) and continue to deliver education and training to learners in their regions.
These are:
- Tai Poutini Polytechnic (West Coast of the South Island)
- Western Institute of Technology in Taranaki (WITT)
- Whitireia and WelTec (Wellington)
- NorthTec (Northland)
As part of the Government’s vision for a strong network of regionally led polytechnics, the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT), Whitireia and WelTec Institute of Technology, and NorthTec will be legally established as standalone institutions on 1 October 2026 through Orders in Council, and become operational from 1 January 2027.
Tai Poutini Polytechnic will transfer its operations to Open Polytechnic from 1 January 2027, ensuring continued access to vocational education and training on the West Coast.
NZIST will be disestablished by 31 March 2027.
