What is in the directory?
The PELT directory has a list of providers that are approved by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to teach Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT).
The directory has the providers’ contact details and information about their courses. Use the drop-down menus to search providers by region, town or city.
Choosing a provider and course
Look in the directory for providers that are close to you and that have the sort of courses you want to do.
If you want to find out more about a provider and its courses, you can:
- look at their website
- contact them
- visit them.
Choose a provider and course that meets your needs.
How much funding will you get for a course?
The amount of funding you can get to pay for courses is called your “balance of entitlement”.
Your balance of entitlement depends on:
- your level of English when you applied for your visa, and
- how much money you paid to Immigration New Zealand.
It will be between NZ$1,531.82 and NZ$6,131.82.
If you gained residency under the Parent Category, your balance of entitlement will be NZ$1,531.82.
You (or someone on your behalf) can find out your balance of entitlement from the TEC.
Email customerservice@tec.govt.nz, or phone 0800 601 301. Please be ready to give your name, date of birth and passport number.
Please note: It might take up to eight weeks – from when you paid – for your funds to be ready to use.
Enrolling in a course
When you are ready to start a course, enrol with the course provider that you have chosen.
How to enrol:
- Take your Agreement/Schedule, passport and payment receipt to the provider to show you have pre-paid for your English tuition. If you don’t have all these things, just take your passport.
- When you enrol, the school will ask you to sign a TEC enrolment form. This gives your consent for the TEC to pay your course fees.
- Before you sign the form, please check the course name and the fees are correct.
Note: All prices in the directory are in New Zealand dollars and include GST.
Withdrawing and getting a refund
If you want to withdraw from a course within the first 10 working days of enrolling, inform the TEC.
After 10 working days, the provider’s own refund policy will apply. Please ask the provider for more information.
Fee refunds will be sent to the TEC and returned to your Pre-purchased English Language Tuition account.
