Birmingham City University in the UK share how they are using different platforms to connect with industry to improve graduate outcomes and embed employability into their curriculum.

Dr Roy Priest, Associate Professor at Birmingham City University, gave an overview of their Employability Ecosystems at the Learner Success Community of Practice session on 28 March 2025.

Employability Ecosystems improve learner engagement, and support successful graduate outcomes by embedding employability into the curriculum and connecting learners with industry throughout their programme of study. They use informal frameworks to maximise the potential for ongoing connection between learners, industry-based professionals and academic staff. The holistic approach encompasses research, knowledge transfer, curriculum development, course and programme marketing.

In the presentation, Roy discusses what the approach looks like in practice and the support the university has put in place for academic staff to enhance learner outcomes through informal engagement with industry. The session closed with a robust questions and answers discussion.

We plan to host Dr Roy Priest at two more Community of Practice sessions later in the year.
