  • Tikanga-ā-Iwi

    Can mean iwi practices or social studies (in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa).

  • Trades Academy funding

    Trades Academies are partnerships between schools, tertiary education organisations (TEOs) and employers. Trades Academies aim to keep young New Zealanders engaged in education and training by creating a clear pathway between school and further education, training, or employment.

  • Tū Māia e Te Ākonga

    The Māori learner who stands proud, able, and confident.  Tū Māia is the name for our strategic implementation framework to support our TEC Story.

  • Unit standards

    A nationally registered, coherent set of learning outcomes and associated evidence requirements, together with technical and management information that supports delivery and assessment. All unit standards are registered on the Directory of Assessment Standards, assigned a level and a credit value, and may contribute to the award of a qualification.

  • Universities New Zealand Te Pōkai Tara (UNZ)

    Universities New Zealand (UNZ) is the peak body for New Zealand's eight universities. It is a statutory body under the Act and is responsible for the quality assurance of university programmes; co-ordinates international education policy; provides sector coordination; and administers scholarships.

  • University

    A TEI defined under Section 268 of the Education and Training Act 2020, that is characterised by a wide diversity of teaching and research, especially at a higher level.  It maintains, advances, disseminates and assists the application of knowledge, develops intellectual independence and promotes community learning.

  • Vote tertiary education

    A Vote is a grouping of one or more appropriations that are the responsibility of a Minister of the Crown and are administered by a department. 

  • Wānanga

    New Zealand’s three wānanga provide quality education using Māori ways of teaching and learning; contributing towards the survival and well-being of Māori as a people.  Wānanga also have a continuing role to play in re-engaging learners into education.
