  • National Student Index

    The National Student Index (NSI) is a database maintained by the Ministry of Education. 

  • National Student Number (NSN)

    The National Student Number (NSN) is a unique identifier, which will be a lifetime identification number that learners keep even if they study at more than one TEO.

  • NCEA co-requisite standards

    The NCEA co-requisite standards are the 20 credits specific to literacy or numeracy skills (or te reo matatini, pāngarau) required to be achieved to be awarded any level of NCEA. 

  • New Zealand Apprenticeship

    New Zealand Apprenticeships (NZAs) provide a premier vocational pathway and quality support for all apprentices. It's expected that on completing an NZA, an apprentice will be "work competent" for the occupation they've been training in. Their industry determines the standard of competency to be met.

  • New Zealand Apprenticeships Register

    It is a statutory requirement that the TEC maintains a register of approved New Zealand Apprenticeships (including complex arrangements).

  • New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST)

    The New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (previously Te Pūkenga) is the national network for the country’s 25 polytechnics and industry training organisations. It is in a process of disestablishment. 

  • New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF)

    A qualification system designed and administered by NZQA to structure New Zealand/national qualifications.

  • New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)

    The Crown entity charged with ensuring that New Zealand qualifications are robust and credible nationally and internationally.

  • New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED)

    A qualification system designed and administered by NZQA to structure New Zealand/National qualifications.

    The Māori Centre for Research Excellence.
