We publish information on the performance of tertiary education organisations (TEOs) based on agreed educational performance indicators (EPIs).

Educational performance indicator reports

Our EPI reports are designed to help TEOs manage and monitor their own performance and to deliver on their agreed tertiary education services.

New EPI reports

View the EPI reports for individual TEOs using our NEW methodology.

The new EPI reports contain two new indicators.

For universities, institutes of technology and polytechnic, wānanga and private training establishments the new reports provide information about the educational performance of individual TEOs. They include performance information for:

  • first year retention rate (using new methodology)
  • cohort -based qualification completion rate (using new methodology)
  • course completion rate (using existing methodology)
  • progression rate (using existing methodology).

For industry training organisations they include performance information for:

  • first-year retention rate for apprentices (using new methodology)
  • cohort -based programme completion rate (using new methodology)
  • credit achievement rate (using existing methodology).

Existing EPI reports

For universities, institutes of technology and polytechnic, wānanga and private training establishments, the existing EPI reports provide information about the educational performance of individual TEOs across four EPIs:

  • retention rate
  • EFTS-weighted qualification completion rate
  • course completion rate
  • progression rate.

For industry training organisations they include performance information for:

  • programme completion rate (using new methodology)
  • credit achievement rate (using existing methodology)

The existing EPI reports also show information about the learners at the TEO.

Methodologies

New methodologies

After consulting with the sector, we have introduced new methodologies for calculating cohort-based completion and retention rates. We used these new methodologies to create the new EPI reports mentioned above. The documents below describes the new methodologies:

For universities, institutes of technology and polytechnic, wānanga and private training establishments

Methodology for cohort-based qualification completion and retention rates (PDF, 658 Kb)

For industry training organisations

Methodology for calculating cohort-based completion and retention rates for industry training (PDF, 651)

Existing methodologies

The documents below describe the existing methodologies for calculating the EPIs we have been using since 2009.

1. EPIs for SAC-funded organisations (October 2014):
