This interactive chart shows researcher demographics (gender, ethnicity, and age) by subject area for each of the four Quality Evaluation rounds (2003, 2006, 2012 and 2018).

Ages of researchers are as of 1 July of the Quality Evaluation year. Ages are grouped into ranges.

In the first three Quality Evaluation rounds, there were three categories for gender – men, women and unknown. In the Quality Evaluation 2018, the three categories were men, women and other. For consistency across rounds we have retained the “unknown” category for this chart.
