I am very pleased to announce that Paul Delahunty will join the whānau delivering the reforms of vocational education when he takes up the role of Director on 26 October.

Tim Fowler

Paul is a senior leader with over 15 years’ experience creating and leading high performing teams. He has been responsible for the successful delivery of complex business change across the private and public sector in New Zealand and overseas.

Most recently, Paul was a DCE at the Social Wellbeing Agency, and has also worked for professional services firms. Prior to this, he has held senior roles in the New Zealand public service, including positions as a consulting partner at Tregaskis Brown and Head of Enterprise Portfolio Management at ACC. He brings a strong mix of commercial and public sector experience to this role, and a proven ability to help organisations prepare for the future.

Paul is a natural collaborator and has experience in building good relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. I know that he is very much looking forward to working with all of you, and continuing the progress we’re making in the reforms of vocational education and training.

It is an exciting time for the new Workforce Development Councils (WDCs). They become operational today. All of the new CEs have been announced, and you can read more about them in this month’s edition. The Councils and the WDC Establishment Unit have been very busy with further recruitment. WDCs will continue building their teams once they are established. In the meantime, they are reaching out to their sectors and industries and beginning the engagement that they will build on over time.

All of New Zealand was in Alert Level 4 when the last RoVE News went out. I know some across te motu are still doing it hard. My thoughts and best wishes are with those who are in Alert Level 3. The resilience of all involved in vocational education and training, from the tertiary education and training organisations to industry groups and employers, has truly been shown throughout this COVID-19 response. Kia kaha to you all.

Ngā mihi nui, ia manuia
