In early March an important meeting was held in Wellington when the Chief Executives and Chairs of ITPs and ITOs across New Zealand came together to discuss RoVE for the first time. This meeting was an opportunity for the leaders to discuss how a strong, unified, sustainable vocational education system for New Zealand can be created together.

Attendees heard updates from Tim Fowler, TEC Chief Executive, David Strong, Director RoVE, and Barry Jordan, Chair of the IST Establishment Board. There were also presentations on the Unified Funding System, Workforce Development Councils, and Mobilising the New World projects. Throughout the day panels and table workshops gave people the opportunity for discussion.

The highlight for many was the visit from Education Minister Hon Chris Hipkins, who took questions from the audience on a range of topics. When asked what he hoped for the legacy of RoVE, Minister Hipkins articulated his desire for vocational education to be seen as a credible, viable and exciting option for school leavers, learners, whānau, and communities.

Generally the Chairs and Chief Executives left with a good understanding of the shared challenges and opportunities ahead, and with an enthusiasm to get involved and create a legacy of success.
