The ‘Tertiary Education and Training – Increase Funding for Enrolments’ initiative provides $112.7 million to fund tertiary education and training enrolments in prioritised areas in 2023, particularly for work-based learning such as apprenticeships. $40 million of this is existing funding that is being carried over from 2022 to 2023.

The ‘Cost Adjustment to Tertiary Tuition and Training Subsidies’ provides $266.9 million over the next four fiscal years to increase the tuition and training subsidies paid to tertiary education and training providers by 2.75% from 1 January 2023. The funding will support providers to maintain the quality of the learning opportunities they provide, help New Zealanders benefit from high-quality education and training, improve their wellbeing, and support the development of a highly paid, skilled and resilient workforce.
