Every year we publish educational performance indicators (EPIs) for each Tertiary Education Organisation (TEO) we fund. EPIs are one set of measures used to assess the performance of TEOs and to make future investment decisions. We have published EPI data since 2010.

For all TEOs, apart from industry training organisations (ITOs), EPI reports are available from 2015 onwards that use our current methodology, and reports from 2009 to 2016 that use our previous methodology.

For ITOs, EPI reports are available from 2016 onwards that use our current methodology, and reports from 2009 to 2017 that use our previous methodology.

To view this year’s EPI data, visit the Educational performance reports on individual TEOs page.

A change from previous years’ reports is that the course completion rate includes all students such as international students. Previously it included just TEC-funded students.

As in previous years there is consistent year-to-year performance by TEOs across the sector. There are some exceptions. Universities have seen an increase in their qualification completion rate over the last three years and it is pleasing to see improved retention rates for apprentices across nearly all ITOs.

The one sector that has some variability in performance is Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics where some have improved across all areas and others have had inconsistent performance.

Overall sector performance

We are no longer updating sector rates using the previous methodology. Overall sector rates, using the current methodology, will be released later in the year as part of publishing all rates, including TEO rates, through an interactive web-based application.
