Change at the TEC

Today the TEC has started consultation with its staff on a proposal to reorganise the TEC.

Key drivers for the proposal are the need to integrate the Careers and Investment components of the TEC’s functions, following the merger with Careers New Zealand in 2017, and the desire to create a more flexible and customer focused organisation focused on delivering outcomes for New Zealand.

The TEC will continue to deliver as usual during the change process.

The TEC is committed to working closely with TEOs to keep them fully informed of any future changes and how they may be affected.

 Kia Rite – Be Prepared

It is proposed to totally integrate the Investment and Careers business lines within the TEC, introduce a dedicated Strategy and Design team to more effectively deliver services through dedicated relationship management, and to create a new Future Workforce Team tasked with a renewed focus on lifting Māori and Pasifika achievement.

The proposed new business model would consolidate the TEC’s regional offices in Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, Palmerston North, Nelson and Dunedin to the main centres of Whangarei, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

 Implementation timeline

TEC staff will be providing their feedback on the proposed changes over the next three weeks. TEC Chief Executive, Tim Fowler, will be considering their feedback before any final decisions are made and a final decision on phase one will be announced in March this year.

If approved, the proposed changes will be implemented in two phases running throughout 2018.
