The BEST Pacific Institute of Education has closed.

Hopefully students have taken the chance to consider future study options. If not, there is more information below about the alternative providers available in the south and west Auckland areas offering comparable courses.

Manukau Institute of Technology, Skills Update Training Institute, New Zealand School of Education, and Advance Training Centre are all available to discuss ongoing study requirements. They are continuing to hold meetings for former BEST students.

Information for BEST students (PDF, 195 Kb)

1 December 2017

Arrangements are being made for students to continue their studies with other training providers.

BEST, which has premises in south and west Auckland, provides training from Level 1 foundation-type courses through to degree level.

The TEC had already notified BEST that we would not fund it in 2018 due to concerns around its financial sustainability and performance, and our knowledge of the education needs in south Auckland.

Students are the top priority and the TEC is working alongside NZQA and StudyLink to make sure students know their options and how to get the proper support.

We have identified alternative providers in the area for all of BEST’s programmes and will be working hard so that students can make a decision on their future study and understand the government support available. Students will be contacted from today and our website will be updated with further information soon.

Meetings for students will be held on Monday 4 December. If possible students should attend one of these meetings, either at:

  • 10am at New Zealand School of Education, 3033 Great North Rd, New Lynn, or
  • 1pm at Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) Manukau Campus, corner of Manukau Station Rd and Davies Ave, Manukau City.

Further information for students will be provided at these meetings and will be available on our website soon, or by contacting us on 0800 601 301 or

24 November 2017

The Tertiary Education Commission (the TEC) has confirmed it will not be funding BEST Pacific Institute of Education in 2018.

The TEC’s top priority is ensuring students from BEST’s south and west Auckland campuses get the education they deserve and are not disadvantaged by the funding decision.

BEST is now responsible for deciding on its future operations and students should contact BEST if they have questions about their studies. The TEC will work with BEST, along with NZQA and StudyLink, to ensure students are the highest priority.

More information for students will be available on our website soon. We recommend you check regularly from Monday. In the meantime, if you would like to discuss your studies with the TEC, please contact us at or 0800 601 301.
