At the Tertiary Education Commission (the TEC), we lead the Government’s relationship with the tertiary education sector and provide career services from education to employment. Each year, we invest over $3 billion in tertiary education and supporting the tertiary and careers system. We ensure New Zealanders are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for lifelong success.

We do this by:

  • investing government funding, through Investment Plans and contracts with tertiary education organisations (TEOs)
  • monitoring and managing the performance of TEOs
  • providing information and advice to the Government about how well TEOs and the tertiary education sector are performing
  • providing high quality careers information and strengthening connections between education to employment.
