Youth programmes

Several programmes delivered by secondary schools aim to upskill learners so they can more easily progress into employment or higher levels of tertiary education.

The TEC provides funding for the:

• Gateway programme, only available through schools
• Youth Training programme delivered through ITPs[1], universities, OTEPs[2], PTEs[3] and schools
• Youth Guarantee provided by selected ITPs, wānanga, PTEs and OTEPS.

The Ministry of Education initiatives include:

• the Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource (STAR)
• Trades Academies
• the Youth Apprenticeships Scheme.
