Capital asset management

Capital Asset Management (CAM) involves meeting a required level of service in the most cost-effective manner through the management of assets for present and future customers (2011 International Infrastructure Management Manual).

The government’s expects New Zealand Tertiary Education Institutions (TEIs) to set their own sensible and aspirational targets for CAM based on the scale of assets under their management and the criticality of those assets to the delivery of key services. These expectations are articulated in Cabinet Office Circular CO(10)2 - Capital Asset Management in Departments and Crown Entities: Expectations.

The following pages provide guidance and resources specifically tailored for TEIs to assist with implementing better capital asset management systems and processes.
