Financial monitoring

We undertake a financial monitoring role which follows the general principles that:

• we allocate funds based on Investment Plans, or by other means focused on the achievement of the strategic priorities
• we are the monitor and ownership adviser to the Crown.

"The TEC has recently developed a Financial Monitoring Framework  (Pdf to be supplied for link through) (the Framework) for TEIs.  The framework sets out the aims and establishes the approach for financial monitoring of tertiary education institutes (TEIs) to be adopted by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) from 1 January 2010.

TEI financial performance will be assessed against a suite of measures covering the following dimensions:

• Viability.
• Sustainability.

As a result of the assessment the TEC will communicate annually to each TEI outlining:

• the financial performance assessment completed
• the assigned risk level (low, moderate or high)
• the level of monitoring and engagement, and
• any additional monitoring or reporting required, including the consideration of any interventions."
