Investments

The Education Act (section 202 and 203(4)) and the Public Finance Act 1989 (section 65I) specify the types of investments in which Crown entities (including tertiary education institutions) may invest.

The Investment Protocols (Word, 60 Kb) outline rules and guidance related to investments undertaken by tertiary education institutions. It also provides guidance for tertiary education institutions wishing to seek approval for investments that are not otherwise allowed under relevant legislation.

It is expected that TEIs will have best practice policies and procedures for the management of treasury functions and investments.  As a minimum a set of protocols should govern TEI investments and there must be a process for making and approving investment decisions.
