Rule SAC078: Postgraduate classification - teacher education

Tertiary education organisations must classify courses in postgraduate teaching qualifications as classification #03, unless the disaggregated courses meet all the following criteria:

• The course is designed for learners who have a pre-service teaching qualification recognised by the New Zealand Teachers Council
• The course contains a practical component of 50% or more at level 8 or equivalent, undertaken in the early childhood, primary, or secondary sectors
• The course involves ongoing expert supervision.

Courses meeting these criteria may be classified in teaching classifications #19.1, #19.2 or #20.
