Deferred enrolment

When there are limited course places available, a learner who enrolled on a previous academic cycle but was unable to continue may have their place deferred.

The learner may then have preferential placement for enrolment at a later date.

Rule ENR023[1] requires the basis of any preferential enrolment to be specified within the admission regulations.

Rule SAC024[2] requires any conditions to be specified. SAC funding may not be claimed for learners who have deferred entry.

TEOs are not required to enrol learners with preferential placement in unfunded places.

Rule ENR023: Admission regulations - preferential placement

Tertiary education organisations must ensure their admission regulations specify the basis on which admission with preferential placement may occur.

Rule SAC024: Course funding - submission for approval

Before a tertiary education organisation (TEO) submits a new course to the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for Student Achievement Component (SAC) or Youth Guarantee (YG) funding approval, the TEO must ensure the qualification of which the course is a part meets the eligibility requirements and is approved for SAC or YG funding.

Note: Before the TEC can approve a new course for SAC/YG funding, the course details (for example the credit value and learning hours) must have been checked by the TEC and approved.
