EFTS value - convergence of methods

When entering qualification details on the TEC Qualifications Register, SAC040[1] requires details of these three methods to be provided.

The convergence of these three methods is a signal that learners studying for a qualification are undertaking a normal and reasonable workload. When they do not converge, we discuss with the TEO[2] the issues this raises, including the most appropriate method to measure the EFTS[3] value of the qualification.

Rule SAC040: EFTS value of qualifications - information provision

Tertiary education organisations (TEOs) must provide information on the three methods of calculating Equivalent Full-Time Student (EFTS) values (credits or points, learning hours, and teaching weeks) when they enter the qualification details on the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) Qualifications Register.

Note: The convergence of these three methods is a signal that learners studying for a qualification are undertaking a normal and reasonable workload. When they do not converge, the TEC discusses with the TEO the issues this raises, including the most appropriate method to measure the EFTS value of the qualification.
