Qualification level

The appropriate qualification level category and its associated numeric code can be determined using this table. 

Rule SAC133[1] requires this to accord to the level of the qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework/New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications.

4 Research postgraduate  Includes masters’ theses of one Equivalent Full-Time Student (EFTS) unit or more for masters and doctoral study. Levels 8–10
5 Foreign student research based Foreign student research-based postgraduate qualification. Not applicable

    Rule SAC133: Classifying qualifications and courses

    Tertiary education organisations must classify their courses, qualifications, and programmes according to:

    • the applicable 1–39 Classification Prescription
    • the qualification level
    • the funding category (based on the 1–39 Classification Prescription).

     

    Note: The Ministry of education requires that TEOs also classify their courses, qualifications, and programmes according to the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education.
