Quality Evaluation
The 2012 Quality Evaluation is currently underway. It is an assessment of the research performance of staff at participating TEOs by an expert peer review panel. The Quality Evaluation is held periodically and is the major component of the PBRF. Full details of the process can be found in the PBRF Quality Evaluation Guidelines.
The Quality Evaluation process rests on the submission and evaluation of Evidence Portfolios (EPs). Specialist peer review panels, assess and evaluate EPs, with additional advice from expert advisory groups (EAGs) and specialist advisers as needed. This process is moderated by the Principal Moderator and Deputy Moderators. Details of the panellists, EAG members and moderators are available on the 2012 Quality Evaluation page.
Participating TEOs are also required to complete a census of their staff and participate in the TEC’s audit of the processes used to identify eligible staff and submit valid EPs and nominated research outputs.
Once the panel decisions have been made and approved, the results are then communicated back to each of the participating TEOs.
The publications page contains links to each of the key guidance documents and all of the technical reference documents and criteria are available on the resources page.
The PBRF IT system has been developed to support the 2012 Quality Evaluation. All of the details for accessing and using the system to submit EPs and census data are also available on the resources page.
The overall process has also been summarised in the below timeline:
