Funding and payments
Equity Funding for Māori and Pasifika students is calculated separately from funding for students with disabilities.
Māori and Pasifika students
Equity Funding for Māori and Pasifika students is based on a tertiary education organisation's (TEO's) previous full calendar year’s December Single Data Return (SDR) information on equivalent full-time students (EFTS) volumes for Māori and Pasifika students.
The funding rates for 2016 are:
Rate per EFTS (excl. GST)
Levels 1 - 4
Levels 5 - 6
Level 8 and above
Equity Funding for Māori students and Pasifika students are allocated separately. Funding should be used in proportion to the allocations for these two groups.
Students with disabilities
The funding rate is $28.60 (excl. GST) per SAC-funded EFTS agreed in Investment Plans. This includes all SAC funding:
- SAC at levels 1 and 2 (competitively allocated)
- SAC at levels 1 and 2 (non-competitively allocated) and
- SAC at levels 3 and above.
If a TEO's Investment Plan is amended and there is a change to the EFTS volumes agreed in the Plan, we may decide to adjust the level of Equity funding available to support students with disabilities. This decision will be based on:
- the change to EFTS levels
- the reasons for making the change
- the availability of funding.
The approved funding allocation for students with disabilities should be used to directly support students with disabilities or impairments.
The EFTS volumes specified in a TEO's Investment Plan that are used to calculate Equity Funding are not delivery targets. The funding is not adjusted to reflect EFTS volumes that are higher or lower than those used in funding calculations.
