From December 2010 the Tertiary Education Organisation Component fund will be disestablished. Equity funding for Māori and Pacific students and tertiary students with disabilities will be stand-alone funds.

Equity funding is a government contribution to help improve equity of access and achievement for Māori students, Pacific students and students with disabilities. Evidence shows that these three groups experience clear disadvantages within the tertiary education system.

Equity funding for Māori and Pacific students is available to ITPs, universities, wānanga, and PTEs.

Equity funding for students with disabilities is available to ITPs, universities, and wānanga.

In 2010, Equity funding is a sub-element of the TEI Base Investment, an element of the TEOC fund. It is agreed through Investment Plans. Delivery of each Plan is monitored by us.

Equity funding allocations are made for each calendar year.

Any TEO[1] that receives funding must abide by a number of rules and conditions.

Access to Equity funding will be considered in accordance with government policy (as directed by the Minister’s determination under section 159L of the Education Act 1989), the Tertiary Education Strategy and in response to performance.
