Budget 2009 significantly reduces and reprioritises grants from 2010.

Adult Literacy Educator Grants (ALEGs) provide support for educators studying for qualifications in teaching adult literacy and numeracy.

2010 funding for ALEG is accessed by a limited group of universities, OTEPs and PTEs.

ALEG funding is aligned to a TEO's Investment Plan. Delivery of each Plan is monitored by us.

Any TEO that receives funding must abide by a number of rules and conditions.

From 2010, the amount of funding reduces and is reprioritised, in line with Budget 2009 decisions.

Access to ALEG funding will be considered in accordance with government policy (as directed by the Minister’s determination under section 159L of the Education Act 1989), the Tertiary Education Strategy and in response to performance.

TEOs cannot apply for ALEG funding at this time.
