Changes for TEOs and funds

Read about Budget changes for:

German and French Master-level students

The domestic status for German and French students enrolled in Master-level programmes in New Zealand will be phased out.
This decision was part of the initiatives and savings for international education from the May 2009 Budget.

Award recipients in all schemes which are being reduced or phased out will be protected through grand-parenting of their entitlements. This means that students currently enrolled will continue to enjoy domestic status until they graduate from their Master's programme or until the second anniversary of their enrolment in a Master programme (whichever comes first).

Any new students enrolled after 5 June 2009 will not receive domestic status unless they have already been issued a written offer advising them of their acceptance by a provider and their domestic status. This will ensure providers can keep commitments that have already been made to students.

Questions about the Investment Plan implications of this phase out should be directed to your Investment Manager. If you have any questions about the budget policy decision, please contact Paul Lister on paul.lister@minedu.govt.nz at the Ministry of Education’s International Division.
