Budget

Parliament approves more than $4 billion each year for tertiary education (including student loans) through the Budget. The appropriation made is mainly within Vote Education.

The government’s financial year runs from 1 July–30 June, whereas our funding for most TEOs is within a calendar year. This can mean it takes some time to explain the implications of Budget decisions.

Budget 2010 information outlines the latest appropriation as outlined by the Minister of Finance on 20 May 2010. You can also refer back to earlier budgets -  Budget 2009 information generally applies to funding in place during the 2010 calendar year and signals the government’s intentions for three years beyond that.
