Budget

Parliament approves around $3 billion each year for tertiary education through the Budget.  The appropriation made is mainly within Vote Education.

Our Statement of Intent specifies how we will manage and what services we will deliver within the appropriation.

The government’s financial year runs from 1 July–30 June, whereas our funding for most TEOs is within a calendar year.  This can mean it takes some time to explain the implications of Budget decisions. 

Budget 2008 information generally applies to funding in place during the 2009 calendar year.  Budget 2009 information generally applies to funding in place during the 2010 calendar year and signals the government’s intentions for three years beyond that.
