Executive team
The Executive Team, made up of the Chief Executive, and the three General Managers, is responsible for:
- the performance of the organisation and the outcomes it achieves
- providing advice on the Government's tertiary education priorities.
Chief Executive, Belinda Clark
Belinda Clark took up the role of Chief Executive at the TEC on 4 July 2011. Prior to this she was Secretary for Justice and Chief Executive of the Ministry of Justice for ten years and before that was the inaugural Director of the Office of Treaty Settlements. She has a background in commercial and banking law with Minter Ellison, was a Senior Manager at ACC and Te Puni Kokiri, and was with MFAT for over ten years.
Deputy Chief Executive, Dr Colin Webb
The Office of the Deputy Chief Executive (part of the Chief Executive’s Office Directorate) is responsible for providing high level strategic and operational advice and recommendations, particularly around the tertiary reforms.
General Manager Tertiary Investment, Dr Grant Klinkum
The Tertiary Investment Directorate is the operational core of the TEC. It leads the organisation's strategic engagement with the tertiary sector and directly negotiates and contracts the delivery of tertiary provision. Through these activities, and the funding and performance commitments in providers' Investment Plans, the directorate gives effect to the Tertiary Education Strategy priorities including the achievement of priority groups of learners, improving system performance, and supporting high-quality research that helps drive innovation.
General Manager Strategy, Planning and Information, David Nicholson
The Strategy, Planning and Information Directorate is responsible for the strategy, planning and information management activities across the TEC. It provides information and analysis about tertiary education need and provision that informs tertiary education investment policy, strategies and decisions, as well as TEC’s own strategic planning. It develops qualitative and quantitative information needed to support TEC’s investments and to enable the performance of TEOs to be monitored. It independently monitors Crown ownership interests in TEIs and supports and monitors governance across the sector. It also provides performance information that informs the investment engagements, the TEC, the Government and the general public.
General Manager Corporate Services, Sue Peacock
The role of the Corporate Services Directorate is to provide TEC with the people, supporting systems and processes to operate effectively as an organisation. This requires the Corporate Services Directorate to provide the infrastructure and support services, such as information technology, recruitment and people development, and good quality business practices that promote productivity.
