The Tertiary Education Commission has released the latest quarterly statistics on Industry Training and Modern Apprenticeships.
Overall, the statistics show that both Industry Training and Modern Apprenticeship numbers declined slightly in the year to December 2009, when compared with December 2008. This is in line with expectations, given current economic conditions.
The statistics show that, as at 31 December 2009:
- a total of 125,962 industry trainees were in training. This compares with 133,303 as at 31 December 2008
- a total of 11,288 trainees were aged between 15 – 19, compared with 13,859 as at 31 December 2008
- there were 12,121 modern apprentices, compared with 12,149 as at 31 December 2008.
